Jr. Cold Brew Technician

Department: Production
Location: Charlton, MA

The Junior Cold Brew Technician reports to the Cold Brew Program Manager and will be responsible for performing various tasks and activities associated with cold brew production and product safety at Tree House Brewing. While this role is focused primarily with cold brew coffee operations, it will provide an excellent opportunity into the overarching coffee program and expose this person to all ends of the operation, from green coffee selection, roasting, extraction, and multi-departmental collaborative projects and releases.

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who loves coffee, hard work and wants to be part of an evolving program at Tree House. The position is full-time and will be based in Charlton, MA, and may include workdays in our other facilities. Flexibility in schedule is critical for this role. Some weekends will be required, with as much notice as possible. Overtime may be required in certain instances. This role’s schedule will start as Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:00pm during the initial training but will become Monday - Thursday 6:00am - 4:00pm (four 10’s) once fully trained.

The pay for this position starts in the $19-22/hr range DOE

As a Junior Cold Brew Technician, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Learning and maintaining cold brew extraction profiles on Brew Bomb brewer and in-house large-scale production cold brewer prototype
  • Following strict sanitation practices and brewing standard operating procedures, helping maintain and document strict SOP and HACCP plans for the safety of canned and packaged cold brew coffee
  • Assist production of house-made infusion syrups and canned lattes
  • Packaging, staging and grinding of roasted coffee for cold brew production as well as grinder daily and monthly cleaning
  • Maintenance and cleaning of necessary brewing vessels and equipment
  • CIP (clean in place) SOP’s for cold brew brite tanks for cold brew packaging
  • Work closely with Senior Cold Brew Tech on the production extractions and recording of batch extractions data, QC analytics, and food safety practices
  • Assistance in product development and process improvements via product sensory, feedback, and assigned experimental projects
  • Pitch in to help the coffee program wherever needed during down time from production tasks

Role Requirements:

  • Previous experience working in specialty coffee, craft beverages, or beer cellaring preferred
  • Strong foundation in food safety and hygienic food handling preferred, HACCP and ServSafe a plus
  • Understanding of importance and implementation of food safety protocols
  • Flexible schedule and a willingness to work weekends and overtime as needed, with as much notice as possible, to ensure operational needs are met
  • General passion for the specialty coffee and craft beverage industries at large
  • You are self-motivated and able to work autonomously, with a focused and hard-working attitude and openness to learning new skills
  • Ability to multitask and work coolly and professionally in time-sensitive situations
  • You are not afraid to speak your mind and share ideas
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues and/or pivot plans quickly in order to coordinate corrective actions needed
  • Stand on feet for long periods of time
  • The ability to lift 30 to 50 lbs (more with assistance)
